Larger scales have more parts because there is more room for detail. A 1:48 aircraft might have 120 parts where the same subject in 1:72 could have 80. Premium manufacturers like Tamiya and Wingnut Wings often have significantly higher parts counts at the same scale.

What counts as a premium complexity kit?

Premium kits include full interior detail, separate control surfaces, multi-piece assemblies for complex shapes, optional parts for different variants, and often include photo-etch and/or resin parts. Examples include Tamiya 1:32 aircraft and Meng 1:35 armour.

How many parts per sprue typically?

Most injection-moulded sprues carry 20-40 parts each, with an average around 30. Clear sprues tend to have fewer parts (5-15). Photo-etch frets can carry 50-100+ tiny parts on a single sheet.

Do more parts mean a better kit?

Not necessarily. More parts can mean better detail, but also a longer build. Well-engineered kits with fewer parts can look just as good through clever moulding. Engineering quality matters more than raw parts count.
