How far apart should points be?

Leave at least one vehicle length of straight track between consecutive points. For OO gauge with standard coaches (260-280mm), leave at least 280mm between the frog of one point and the toe of the next.

What size points should I use?

For mainline running, use medium or large radius points. Small radius points are fine for sidings and yards where speed is low. Peco Streamline offers small, medium and large radius options for all common gauges.

What is the correct track spacing for parallel tracks?

Standard OO gauge parallel track spacing is 64mm (centre to centre). This allows sufficient clearance for passing trains. N gauge uses 33mm spacing. These can be reduced slightly for sidings but never go below 56mm in OO.

How do I plan a crossover?

A crossover connects two parallel tracks using two points facing opposite directions. The length depends on the point angle and track spacing. Use matching point sizes for both sides. Ensure the straight section between the points is long enough for your longest vehicle.
