Propeller Calculator — Prop Matching

Match propeller diameter and pitch to your motor for optimal thrust and efficiency.

How We Calculate This

Calculates theoretical pitch speed, tip speed and estimated static thrust from propeller specifications and motor RPM.

Formula

  • Pitch speed = Pitch (inches) x RPM / conversion factors
  • Tip speed = Pi x Diameter x RPM / 60
  • Static thrust (Newtons) = 4.392×10⁻⁸ × RPM × Dia³·⁵ ÷ √Pitch × (4.23333×10⁻⁴ × RPM × Pitch) (Dia, Pitch in inches; sea-level air). This is the electricRCAircraftGuy / Flite Test empirical equation with aircraft airspeed set to zero for static thrust, so thrust scales with RPM². Converted to grams-force via ×1000 ÷ 9.80665 (≈ ×102) for thrust-to-weight comparison.
